Tue 30 Dec

December 30, 2008

Hands played: 1254
Average number of tables: 14-18
Net profit: -$18.60
Current bankroll: $186
Time spent: 2 hours
Mistakes: played a bit like big stack at the start. then i started playing my usual.

Many of my AK lost to some other pocket pair. that was probably the reason for my negative profit today. most of my top pairs were profitable.

Mon 29 Dec

December 29, 2008

Hands played: 1984
Average number of tables: 15-20
Net profit: +$35
Current bankroll: $208
Time spent: 2.5 hours
Mistakes: I made quite a couple of mistakes. Deviated from what I should have played quite a few times. Probably because of all the reading I did which only applies to the big stack strategy. I didn’t fold my continuation bet when I got reraised a few times. I also finally realised (remembered) that pokerstars only has 9 men tables and not 10. So there are only two early positions instead of three.

NL25 is really fishy, much easier than NL10 in fact which surprises me. I think all the people who control their bankroll properly go to NL1o whereas all the ignorant nubs go to NL25. I’m going to bleed them dry for the rest of the week.

Short-term Goals
– unlock pokerstrategy elephant (about 500 more strategy points to go)
– hit $1000 by end of february (i think it would be even faster if only NL50 was half as fishy as NL25)
– start using steals/resteals, advanced Cbetting and adaptation to SSS in my games
– stop confusing myself with BSS stuff when I am still using SSS
– don’t get arrogant and strive to maximise my profit even more by improving

I think half of my winnings came from an upswing and the other half came from badplay from my opponents

Things to study

December 29, 2008

After much thinking I think I’m going to play Short Stack Strategy until I hit $1000 or 2000 in bankroll since it’s much less complicated and has lesser variance. I have mastered basic SSS so I shall take my game to the next level

– Steals and resteals
– Continuation betting
– Adaptation to other SSSers

The first two require statistics which I am currently lacking because my Pokerstrategy Elephant expired. I need to grind 1000 Strategy points before I can unlock it again (I have about 400 right now so I would need another 2 weeks).

Maybe I will play more during the weekend in the morning. It would be night in the US and all the chao angmohs are playing when they are drunk = free money for me. NL20 seems to be even looser than NL10. there are at least 20+ tables above 40% players per flop

The theory of Poker

December 27, 2008

well many people said this book is the father of all poker books so i started reading it tonight.

Key concepts:
1) Everytime you play a hand differently from the way you would have if you could see all your opponents’ cards, they gain and vice versa. Conversely, everytime opponents play their hands differently from the way they would if they could see all your cards, you gain and vice versa.
– The first goal is  accomplished by reading your opponents’ hands accurately. The second is accomplished by deception of your hands.
2) Tighten up when the antes are small, and loosen up when the antes are big

I knew these two theories already, but i’m just rethinking about them

Sat 27 Dec

December 27, 2008

Hands played: 6923
Average number of tables: 16-24
Net profit: -20.35
Current bankroll: $150 (supposed to be 50)
Time spent: 8 hours
Mistakes: I was on tilt whole day long so I made many unnecessary bets and calls. I also misclicked once or twice.

It was an endless spiral into the shithole. my bankroll kept dropping and it dropped to -$35 I was so pissed after all the suckouts on my AA and KK but I continued playing on hoping to break even. then Cai Shen came to bless me.
